Duvet size guide
Choosing the right duvet size makes the difference between a duvet that drapes nicely down both sides of the bed and one that lets the cold in. This guide gives you the minimum size for each bed width, and the rule to follow if you’re unsure.
The size table
These sizes are minimums: any smaller and the duvet will be too small to cover the bed.

How to measure your bed
- Measure the width of the bed, not just the bare mattress: that’s what determines the duvet size.
- Check the depth of the mattress, including any mattress topper. The deeper it is, the larger the duvet needs to be to hang down at the sides.
- Think about how you sleep: for two people, with one who wraps themselves up in the duvet, you need some extra room.
The rule: if you’re between two sizes, choose the larger one
A duvet that’s a little large simply hangs down further at the sides. A duvet that’s too small lets the cold in and gets pulled from one side to the other all night. If in doubt, go up a size.
The most common cases
Double bed: 135 × 190, 140 × 190 or 140 × 200
Minimum size: 200 × 200 cm.
King-size bed: 150 × 200 or 160 × 200
Minimum size: 230 × 230 cm. Avoid reusing a 200 × 200 duvet: it will be too small.
Super king bed: 180 × 200 and over
Size: 264 × 229 cm. It also suits 200 cm beds and two 90 cm beds pushed together.
Single bed (90 cm) and small double bed (120 cm)
Minimum size: 140 × 200 cm for a 90 cm bed, 160 × 210 cm for a 120 cm bed.
